Music is an integral part of the fitness club experience. From aerobics classes to TVs in the gym to background music setting the mood throughout your facility, music is an important motivator that makes working out fun.
IHRSA group purchasing supplier Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) supports songwriters, composers, and publishers by taking care of an important aspect of their careers—getting paid for the music they create. BMI supports businesses and organizations that play music publicly by offering blanket music licenses that permit them to play more than 10.5 million musical works.
Both relationships save each time and money.
How IHRSA Members Can Save on Music Licensing
IHRSA created this partnership with BMI to both educate members on music licensing and to save them money on music licensing fees.
BMI is the bridge between songwriters and the businesses and organizations that want to play their music publicly. As a global leader in music rights management, BMI serves as an advocate for the value of music, representing more than 10.5 million musical works created and owned by more than 700,000 songwriters, composers, and music publishers.
IHRSA members are entitled to:
- A one-time 10% BMI licensing fee discount for members who license online
- Yearly 5% BMI licensing fee discount for all IHRSA Members who pay their subsequent BMI licensing fees online
In addition, all BMI Fitness customers are eligible for a yearly 5% timely payment discount. Chain discounts may also be available.
Steps to Start Saving on Music
All IHRSA members who use music in their fitness facilities are eligible for these savings.
A BMI License provides you with the legal authorization you need to use a very powerful product—music. This product is the music creator’s property, so a licensing agreement protects your business or organization from penalties involved in copyright infringement. Your payment of music licensing fees ensures the continued creation of music—for you and your organization.
BMI offers annual blanket licenses that provide the copyright permission necessary when a business performs music in public. A “public performance” of music is defined in the U.S. copyright law to include any music played outside a normal circle of friends and family. Your IHRSA discount is automatically applied when your club licenses and/or pays online.
