WORCESTER, MA—Worcester Fitness, 440 Grove Street in Worcester, MA, recently organized a swim-a-thon challenge at the YWCA, 1 Salem Square, Worcester, MA, facility, their current practice location. The goal was to raise funds for purchasing starting blocks for the YWCA pool. The challenge attracted 16 swimmers aged 7-15, who solicited donations to reach their goal. They successfully raised enough money for one starting block, with additional funds contributed by Worcester Fitness.

In total, five starting blocks were purchased, with Worcester Fitness donating the installation costs with a generous contribution of $20,000.

The YWCA managers played a crucial role in approving the project, overseeing the block design, and managing the installation timeline.

The initiative stemmed from a conversation between John Dwinell, the YWCA aquatic coordinator, and Kathy Spodick, head coach of the Worcester Fitness Flyers, over a year ago. Coach Spodick took charge of the project, with strong collaboration between the ownership group of Worcester Fitness and YWCA management.

However, the true heart of this endeavor lies in the swimmers' determination, the support of their families, and the generosity of the Worcester Fitness Family.

The new starting blocks will greatly enhance swimmers from both organizations with their competitive training and individual performance. Furthermore, it will provide the YWCA with new opportunities to develop aquatic programs for their community.
