Health & Fitness Association Liz Clark today released the following statement on the October 14 passing of former U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue, for who she worked for six years earlier in her career:
"Tom was a legend in the nation's capital, the business world, and as an association leader--and he is also a legend in my own life for what he taught me as an mid-career executive working for him at the Chamber of Commerce.
"For the thousands of men and women who have worked alongside him across his career, he taught us to always be pushing forward as advocates for our members; he taught us that every association is only as good as the quality of its team members and member service; and he taught us that it was never about politics or partisanship -- always about the issues that mattered to our members. Advocacy for membership is a noble and vital part of our democracy.
"Tom was creative and kind, innovative and assertive. He will be missed, but I know that I am a stronger leader today because of what I learned from him, and that his greatest legacy is the countless Donohue alumni whose lives and careers were enhanced because they worked alongside one of the best there ever was."
