Health & Fitness Association President & CEO Liz Clark today released the following statement to honor the life of Waldyr Soares, founder of Fitness Brasil and a longtime industry leader in Brazil and internationally:
“Waldyr Soares was a giant in Brazil and throughout the world as an advocate, educator, mentor, and spokesperson for the international community of the health and fitness industry.
“One of the most valuable and longstanding alliances is that between the Health & Fitness Association and our partner, Fitness Brasil, and the co-branded convention and trade show known as IHRSA Fitness Brasil. Waldyr deserves much credit for the strength and longevity of this relationship.
“From the New York Times and other top media outlets, to government officials, and to industry events throughout Latin America and around the world, Waldyr was proud to share the success, growth, and belief of his fellow citizens that exercise and activity are not about appearance but about a lifelong commitment to improving one’s physical and mental health.
“Waldyr will be missed and leaves big shoes to fill. The Health & Fitness Association will share additional stories and memories about Waldyr in the May issue of Club Business International to promote his legacy. We extend our condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the Latin American industry at large.”
